Choose “Day ONE” — Allow God to Redirect Your Efforts Now #TheGodStandard
Most of our long term goals are achieved via a mental shift. Often, it’s that same mental shift that’s enough to shift our surrounding atmosphere. For me, what set my thoughts apart was choosing to prioritize DAY ONE over “one day.”
I remember when I reactivated my membership at my studio in D.C., after moving to Maryland, and deciding that I was going to take a new take on Fitness... Basically, fitness gradually became the least of my priorities, and I gained a surmountable chunk of weight. Basically 40+ pounds over the course of 12 months. (I still looked cute, but I wish someone told me, because I was clearly in a long-term state of denial!) When I committed myself mentally to the thought of getting back to the body that I once knew by that Spring, my first day back was an obscure first date. It was not a “diet starts Monday” situation, by any means. Lol.
It was a Friday, I believe. The Friday of Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, and I’m SURE of this because I was SO sore the entire weekend! I committed myself to four workouts that holiday. Similar to new year resolutions, statistically, most diets, most workouts, most SHORT-term resolutions start on Mondays.
God has given all of us EACH & EVERY season of our lives as a gift. I went through my lows to get to my now. Often we pass up opportunities to maximize our strengths and our abilities because we’re doubting ourselves. We lack the certainty that God has in us. However, here’s the shift:
When we understand that we’re responsible for doing GOOD WORKS (Ephesians 2:10; John 14:12), we must TRUST that God will help us & GUIDE US, to actualize that potential.
Because when He CALLS us, He QUALIFIES us, while He EMPOWERS us (Romans 8:30).
All it takes is for us to take the FIRST STEP. Stop toying with the “what if’s” & putting off what God has waiting for you. Decide to make today your DAY ONE. No longer will “one day” be your testimony. Therefore, don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself (Matthew 6:34).
Understandably, sometimes we feel as though we are not enough. Simply put. Striving for our own definition of perfection, let alone someone else’s, typically leaves us:
Worn Out
Exhausted
Disappointed
Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt! Lol.
Proverbs 3:5 reminds us that when we acknowledge God in all of His ways, it helps us: REDIRECT our efforts from where they *are not* enough, to where they can THRIVE. It’s crazy that no matter how many times, I read, hear, or sing (especially SING) Proverbs 3:5, a new perspective is always revealed.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
Can you imagine truly trusting in the Lord so much that you allow our greater being, our Father, to choose and define YOUR definition of perfection and success? John 15:5 explains that without God, we can do nothing. What God can accomplish for us and WITH us is far beyond what we can ever imagine, nor achieve on our own. But FIRST, we have to ALLOW Him to do so.
Allow God to influence your plans, advise your business, cultivate your skills, and create your to-do lists and agenda. Allow our Lord to navigate and guide you through your daily decisions and goal-setting. Don’t exhaust your efforts going at it alone. Give it up to God, to ALLOW His power to be strengthened and made PERFECT in your weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).
Now, that’s a true definition of perfection. When in doubt, remind yourself that His Grace is sufficient to sustain us. Today is the day for you to walk LOCKSTEP with Christ on the journey He has planned for you. Now, what does that look like?
